Saving Antwerp
From its stripped-down décor to its downright dodgy bathrooms, walking into Antwerp Mansion always felt like a really good house party. And, like with all the really good house parties, the raucousness eventually attracted the unwanted attention of neighbours and police. Clandestine in nature, Antwerp found itself in unfamiliar talked-about territory this year as reports spread of permanent closure due to noise complaints. However, the enigmatic venue was saved by the skin of its teeth by a petition and resurrected in a near-identical guise albeit with earlier opening hours; a real fist-pumping moment for Manchester music lovers if there ever was one.
