Manchester loses two Record Stores in HMV administration

Our beloved Fopp on Brown Steet and HMV in the Trafford Centre were closed immediately when Canadian retailer Sunrise Records bought out the struggling chain on the 5th February.

Sunrise, fought off competition from the likes of Mike Ashley of Sports Direct who reportedly wanted to transition the HMV and Fopp brands into his recently acquired House Of Fraser department stores.

The deal saw Sunrise acquire 100 stores across the UK safeguarding the future of nearly 1,500 staff but unfortunately, the two Manchester stores couldn’t be salvaged in the buyout deal.
