Regulars first dubbed the venue ‘Band On The Wall’ during its days as The George and Dragon pub in the 1930s, when acts performed on a stage halfway up the back wall to make room in the bustling building. Since then Band On The Wall has become a pillar of Manchester’s music scene. In the 1970’s punk made a home for itself there, showcasing early shows from the likes of Buzzcocks, The Fall and Joy Division. Today the charity run venue is known for its regular club nights with Craig Charles and Mr Scruff, alongside a diverse range of arty acts from across the globe. £3.5million plans are in place for the club to expand into the derelict Cocozza building increasing its capacity from 350 to 500 for headline performances.
